A 47-year -old Freeport woman allegedly went speeding down the road there at 70 mph and almost crashed her car into a construction site near the Marine Corps building before the officer stopped her. She was charged with various traffic violations as well as alleged DWI (.14%). In addition, her car was seized for asset forfeiture...PO Petito arrested a 38-year-old Westbury man for aggravated unlicensed operation second and third degree, after the man was involved in an accident at the Denton Avenue overpass near Tannerspond Rd. on October 13. The motorist claimed his brakes failed and struck a car coming from the other direction there. He was also charged with various traffic violations including defective brakes... On October 14, a youth was charged with the possession of alcohol on Ninth Street.. On the same day, a 19-year-old at Hamilton Place was also charged with the possession of alcohol... On October 15, an 18-year-old was charged with the possession of alcohol in Field 6E... Between October 15 and 17, a Kilburn Rd. homeowner saw a stolen golf cart from her yard. It was on the 18th hole at the GC Country Club... On October 13, between 7 a.m.and 7 p.m., someone damaged the dashboard of a 1990 Volvo parked at the Country Life Press RR station and took a car stereo...Between October 11 and 12, somone stole a pocketbook containing credit cards and a checkbook from an unlocked car parked on Magnolia Avenue...On October 13, someone stole a $700 Sony FM DVD player from a car parked in Field 6E. Toast burning in an oven at the Adelphi Social Work Building sounded an alarm on October 13... An alarm also sounded for a possible water leak at Stewart School on October 14... At 3:51 a.m. on October 14, a basement flooded at a Wilson Street house... A Transverse Rd. homeowner reported dizzy symptoms and a carbon monoxide alarm sounding at 2:06 p.m. on October 14, and an apparent malfunction of a heating unit was found there. The FD mentioned that it is advisable for homeowners to have an annual boiler inspection by a reputable serviceman at this time of year... An exterminator doing his job accidentally set off an alarm at the County Bar Association Building on October 14... The FD made a keyless entry to unlock the door at a First Street residence on October 15...Firemen rescued a victim from a car that had rolled up on its driver's side at the scene of an accident at Cherry Valley Avenue near Ninth Street on October 18...On October 19, firemen answered a call for an odor of gas at a Wellington Rd. house. A pilot light on a gas-fired heating plant was out. The owner was advised to have a technician look at it...
