Cathedral Announces Organ Music Festival

The Cathedral of the Incarnation and the XII Latvian Organ Music Festival North America will present organists Iveta Apkalna, Vita Kalnciema and Marta Pramnieks in a concert featuring music from Baroque era to the present, including music of contemporary Baltic composers, at 7 PM. Saturday, October 22. The Cathedral is located on 50 Cathedral Avenue, Garden City.

Ms. Apkalna was recently referred to in Gramophone Magazine as “one of the top organists in the world, who offers eclectic, balanced organ programs with much drama and a wide range of expressiveness.” She has been awarded the prestigious ECHO-Klassik “Instrumentalist of the Year” for 2005, joining the like of Renée Fleming, Lang Lang, Simon Rattle, Anne Sophie Mutter and Joshua Bell as recipients of this award. Ms. Kalnciema is a noted pedagogue in Latvia and director of the Latvian Guild of Organists. A prize-winning concert organist herself, she had made numerous recordings for the series “Historic Organs of Latvia” as well as audiovisual recordings for the archives of Latvian Radio and Latvian Television.

Tickets for the concert will be available at the door and are $15 general seating, $5 high school and college students, children under 13 admitted free.
