Thunder Maroon 10 Year Olds
Norton successfully makes the 2-pt conversion Kick Last Saturday, the smell of pigskin was in the air at the NYCFL Jamboree in Massapequa. On a hot sunny day, in full gear, the Garden City Thunder Maroon 10-year old team opened well at the annual jamboree. The Maroon team scrimmaged against the following four teams: Bellmore Braves, Franklin Square Warriors, Baldwin Bombers and Mineola Chiefs. Throughout the day, the Maroon team continued to run new offensive schemes and misdirection plays against their opponents. As for the defensemen, they hit strong and worked on their man-to-man coverage during the scrimmages.
With the start of a new season, last season's talented coaches returned to the Maroon sideline: Head Coach John Ernenwein and Assistant Coaches Gene Berkery, Charlie Comiskey and Bob Defliese.
Make way for the Berkery tag team Returning players suiting up in uniform for Coach Ernenwein are: Eugene Berkery, Patric Berkery, Anthony Cascione, Michael Comiskey, Timmy Coogan, Brendan Cullen, Brian Defliese, John Derdak, Franklin Dickinson, Chris Diglio, Scott Ernenwein, Timmy Fitzgerald, John Gentile, Keith Hoge, Liam Kennedy, Matt Masullo, P.J. McGovern, Austin Menger, Danny Muller, Pat Niebler, Brendan Orr, Matt Schmelzinger, Pat Tully and Oliver Weber. Maroon's four new players are: John Fallon, Christian Morreale, Mattingly Packman and John Wein.
Maroon 11's are all smiles :-) Last year's Championship game loss has wet the appetites of the coaches and players for a stronger new year. Their commitment is impressive, practicing three times a week in August in the extreme heat and rain.
We wish the "Men in Maroon" a successful season on the gridiron.
GO THUNDER!
