Ralph Alan Kohart, Sr.
Ralph Alan Kohart, Sr. of Moorestown, New Jersey passed away on September 29, 2005 at the age of 72. Ralph was born in Garden City and was a graduate of Garden City High School. He was the owner and founder of The Stud Welding Company in Moorestown, New Jersey. Ralph was a former Assistant Fire Chief and Exempt Member of the Garden City Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Lois, his daughters Karen (Jeff) Schlemmer of Ansonia, Connecticut and Audrey Kohart of Moorestown, New Jersey and his son Ralph (Anne) Kohart, Jr. of Moorestown. Ralph was devoted to his five grandchildren Aaron and Brianna Schlemmer and Jeffrey, Lauren and Peter Kohart. Mr. Kohart is survived by two of his sisters Marilyn Smith and Dianne Moody both of Garden City. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Christine Kohart who resided in Garden City and his brothers Joseph III, Robert, Alfred, Calvin, Donald and Dennis and his sister June Conant. A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 1 at the Lewis Funeral Home in Moorestown. Internment will be private. Alfred Carpentier
Alfred Carpentier, a Long Island entrepreneur and life long philanthropist, died on September 30, 2005 after an eight month battle with post operative complications from colon cancer surgery. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 14, 1925.
A U.S. Navy World War II veteran, Al was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Columbia University and Columbia Law School.
Al was active in many charitable endeavors that included the Long Island Association, the Boy Scouts of America, the U.S.O., the East Meadow Kiwanis Club and the East Meadow Little League Baseball and Softball Association. In 1962, Al began as an Assistant Coach. Ten years later, while serving as Commissioner, his vision and stewardship combined the efforts of Government, Organized Labor, the Business Community and the East Meadow Little League Board of Directors to create a baseball field complex in East Meadow. A field is named in his honor.
Al remained active in the East Meadow Little League as a Past Commissioner and Life Member and in 2002 he was a "Golden Honoree" at the East Meadow Little League 50th Anniversary Celebration.
He practiced law in Garden City and other Long Island communities during his lifetime. Also, his son Robert Carpentier is Of Counsel to Albanese & Albanese in Garden City.
Al is remembered as a keen intellect with a joyful sense of humor. He was selflessly devoted to his family and was a tireless advocate of helping others in need. Al is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eva, his son Bob and his wife Cindy, his son Glenn, his son Gary and his wife Katja, his grandchildren Bobby, Andrew and Alex and his sister Inez of Plano, Texas.
