On Saturday, October 8, registration begins at the GC Public Library for Scarecrow Hat at 9 a.m., which will be held on Saturday, October 22. Also at the Library, the Women's Club of GC presents A Rockette Remembers from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11. The GC Homemakers meet from 11:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday October 12 at the library. On the same night, the Eastern Property Owners Association meets from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m...Card games are being held at the Irish American Center, 297 Willis Ave., Mineola. Call 746-9392...The Tall Club of Long Island meets at Bertucci's, LIE Exit 49 North-Melville at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 10. Men must be at least 6'2"tall and women at least 5'10"tall. Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem
A truck stop was conducted on NHP Rd. on September 28 and 12 trucks were inspected with 10 trucks taken out of service; 3 for overweight, with 76 tickets issued... on September 27, 10:03 p.m., PO Stolz arrested a 47-year-old Commack woman for aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree, numerous traffic violations as well as a bench warrant for stalking, when the motorist was observed allegedly excessively speeding on Franklin Avenue...
PO Dallolio arrested 2 Hempstead youths at Meadow Place after they had been observed stealing a radio and other items from a car there... On September 29, a 48-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing over $440 in items at Lord and Taylor. The items included a pair of Lucky jeans and underwear...On October 2, PO Oswald arrested a 21-year-old Port Washington man for leaving the scene of an accident and for alleged impaired driving( .07%) on Franklin Ave./Twelfth Street...A 46-year-old Levittown woman allegedly stole $372 in merchandise at Lord and Taylor on October 3. Items included 2 cashmere sweaters and a rain coat... On October 4, 2:40 a.m., 2 youths were observed throwing a chair and table at a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder parked in Field 7s...On September 29, a man described as African American in his 20s wearing a black hoodie and black bubble jacket was reported to have robbed the Mobil Station on Franklin Avenue. The man showed a knife and stole $200 from a cash register there... Three burglaries occurred on September 30. The first one was between 6:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Roxbury Road. A second story window had been broken and burglars took numerous jewelry after ransacking the house. The second burglary occurred between 6:30 and 8:45 p.m. at a Sackville Rd. house. A second story window was also found broken and over $15,000 in jewelry was stolen this time. At a Weyford Terrace house, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a woman heard a noise upstairs and later found that someone had ripped out her attic fan and kicked in a ceiling before looking for items there. Nothing has been found missing at this time...Another burglary occurred at a Westbury Rd. house on October 2, between 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. Silver and jewelry was found missing and entry had been made through a rear window and back sliding door...

On September 28, mutual aid was given to the GC Park FD for a ladder at the scene of a bus fire...There may have been a small gas leak at a Magnolia Ave. residence on the same day...Firemen shut off a circuit at Wyatt Rd. on September 28... LIPA was notified of a power line that had come down at the Village Yard on September 29... Helium was probably the cause of an alarm at Kellum Place on October 1... FD advised a Stewart Avenue homeowner to clean a chimney after it was reported that a bird was caught in a fireplace there...Firemen shut off a dryer that had overheated at Earle Hall, Adelphi University, on October 2... A fan removed smoke from a First Place residence on October 3...
