Niki battles for the ball!
Niki battles for the ball! GC Daredevils improved their division winning record to 3-0 with a convincing 5-2 win over a well coached Massapequa Mischief team. The GC Daredevils once again used speed and passing to take a decisive 3-0 lead in the first half and didn't yield a goal until they went up 5-0. The win kept them in 1st place and gave them a two point lead over division rivals Albertson and Farmingdale.

With every game played the GC Daredevils team play continues to improve. It is no longer uncommon to see one of the halfbacks streaking down the sideline only to stop short near the opposing teams corner, make a fancy move to clear the defender and cross the ball over to a fullback for the score. The two opening goals happened exactly that way with Courtney Studdert crossing the first ball over to Carly Knowles for the opening goal and to Victoria Piscopo for the second goal. The half ended with Lilly Schmitt outracing a Massapequa defender to the ball and nailing it into the corner of the net.

Jackie really using her head!!
Jackie really using her head!! To measure how a team is improving, one needs to see the team do something that it hasn't done in any of the past games. We witnessed a professional level play in the second half when Carly Knowles faked out her defender and crossed the ball to Krista Dampman who had a defender hanging all over her. Krista quickly settled the ball and passed it to a wide open Erin Greiner who nailed a 20 footer for the score. The quickness and accuracy of the play had the team, fans and coaches from both sides applauding. The GC Daredevils finished their scoring when Krista popped in a goalie deflected ball in to give the Daredevils a 5-0 lead.

Brynne gives it a good boot!Brynne gives it a good boot! Of course, the offensive could not have had as many opportunities to score as they had without the tremendous play of the defense. Both Kelsey Tierney and Brynne Murphy led the defense with their outstanding play in goal. They often acted as the fourth fullback by stepping up and crushing the ball downfield. Fullback Elizabeth Furman, the Daredevils unsung hero, continued to race down every ball that came over the half way mark. She does it so often you tend to take it for granted. The tenacious Taylor Pappas along with powerful Niki Berkery teamed up to stop every attack that came their way. Jacqueline Jahelka, who has the ability to play every position, had an outstanding game on both offense and defense. And, a big cheer goes to Jane Frumberg who played great despite feeling under the weather.

The Daredevils will travel to New Hyde Park on Saturday in search of their 4th victory. Good Luck Daredevils.
