It's 3-And-0 For Thunder 9 Grey
Cameron Kern and Brett Stewart enjoy their first season with Thunder Grey With a classic setting for football night, lights, rain and mud the Thunder 9 Grey played Friday night, Sept. 23rd at Community Park, overpowering the Floral Park Titans by a score of 19-0
Thunder, starting on Defense, made a few nice gang tackles for 1-2-3 Titan downs. On GC's first possession, the Offense pulled off an excellent fake and provided great blocking as Michael Collins got the ball and made a clear run 50 yards for touchdown. Danny Simmons attempted the extra point but was held back.
THEN THE RAIN CAME DOWN hard!! It didn't seem to bother the boys, though, as Pat Gerspach rushed for a touchdown, making it 12-0 Thunder. Nick Giannone made the extra point; 13-Zip at the half.
Another touchdown for Michael Collins
The rain having driven away many of the spectators and sending the Titan cheerleaders packing, the Thunder Offense really came alive. Great blocking by Nick Giannone, Brian Goulard, Andrew Magdich, Marty Waters, Bryan Irwin, Ryan Giacini, Liam McGuiness and Danny Simmons led to back to back first downs by Jack Tigh and Michael Collins, which were complemented by a Titan offsides penalty. With the ball spotted on the 25 yard line, Tigh slipped away (literally!) for a TD. 19-0 Thunder. Liam McGuiness tried for the extra point but was also held back. Thunder Defense was not generous in giving yards to the Titans. Effective tackling by Connor Tariche, James Lark, Chris Connolly, Andrew Moonan, Bret Stewart, Cameron Kern, Kyle Wein, and Devon McGuiness allowed for little gain.

Near the end of the fourth quarter, the rain stopped. Some good Titan ball-running allowed the Dad-linesmen to have a little fun, as measurement was needed to determine a Titan first down. After another Titan 1st down, Tackle Scott Irwin said, "That's enough." He got the Titan ball-carrier for second down after a 6-yard gain. On 3rd and 4, a fired-up James Lark almost sacked the QB; Irwin then took down a Titan for the last down the game. Final score: 19-0.
Pat Gerspach scores his first touchdown this season
Soaking wet and with very dirty pants, the Thunder 9 Grey boys joined their families for a side-line "tailgate" celebration, featuring chicken, hot dogs, snacks, and lots of the sweet stuff.
Let's hear it for Coaches Gerspach, Collins, Connolly, Goulard, and Magdich who stayed out in the rain, seemingly oblivious to how wet they were getting. Most importantly let's hear it for the MOMS who have to wash those muddy football pants!! A labor of love, no doubt!
