Team congratulates Maria Sokolovich after scoring first goal 'W'hat a way for the Goalbusters to host a match against the Patchogue Strikers at Community Park.

'With' a start time of noon, the Goalbusters, a GU-13 travel soccer team, got off to a quick start. The Goalbusters took control early and maintained it for the entire 70 minute match. The physicality of the Strikers squad was no match for the determination and skill of the Goalbusters. The girls executed solid passes which set up effective offensive plays. At the 18 minute, defender Kara Zerille and midfielder Carly Cento executed a give-and-go play. Kara then passed the ball off to forward Caroline Tarzian. Caroline dribbled the ball up a few yards and saw forward Maria Sokolovich open on the wing. Maria received the ball and took the shot which landed in the left corner of the net, making this the first goal scored for the Goalbusters.

Goalbusters celebrate their win against the strikers 'W'hen the whistle blew for the start of the second half, the Goalbusters saw a renewed Striker aggression. Without losing focus on the task at hand, the Goalbusters were determined to score an insurance goal early on in the second half. Midfielder Barbara Sullivan won a 50-50 ball in the middle of the field. She fed the ball to forward Caroline Tarzian, who crossed it to forward Kelly Reis who made a run to the goal up the middle. Kelly received the pass and took the shot which landed for the second goal of the game. With the insurance goal, the Goalbusters continued to keep the pressure on the Strikers. The game ended with a "W" for the Goalbusters with a score of 2-0.

'W'alt Winchurch, head coach, placed the mark in the "W" column as the team and assistant coaches, Bill Mahoney and Pete Takach cheered on. All of the girls deserve recognition for an outstanding display of skill. They managed to concentrate on the game despite the questionable physical moves the Strikers resorted to using during the game. Katie McCarthy, Cate Murphy, Krysta Cento, Emily Winchurch, Kate Butcher, Carly Cento, Mikaela Rix, Lauren Engelke, Elizabeth Mahoney, Kelly Reis, Maria Sokolovich, Caroline Tarzian, Christine Codignotto, T Takach, Kara Zerille, and Barbara Sullivan were extremely pumped and ready to take on their opponent. Goalie Lauren Williams did her part in shutting out attempts by the Striker's offense. Go Goalbusters!
