Garden City Senior News Flu Shot Date Change

In a recent article, Winthrop Hospital listed a date that our department’s flu shot program. That date was in error. The correct date for our flu shot program, which will be given at the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane, will be Tuesday, December 6 th. We will announce registration for this program in a later edition.

Join Us For A New York City Holiday Tour And Lunch At Carmine’s

On Thursday, December 1 st, the Recreation Department will enjoy the day touring Manhattan’s holiday décor with Prime Time Travel. Before the tour, we will travel to Manhattan’s’ famous “Carmine’s” for lunch. The cost of this trip will be $74. In order to secure a seat on this trip, a $10 deposit must be received in the Recreation Office by Friday, October 14 th. All monies must be paid by check made payable to Prime Time Travel. Tickets To Disney On Ice At The Nassau Coliseum

The Recreation Department has secured tickets to two performances of Disney on Ice’s “The Incredibles Magic Kingdom Adventure” at the Nassau Coliseum. The show times and the cost of the tickets are as follows:

Thursday, 11/17 at 7:30 pm in the “200” section - $24. a ticket

Sunday, 11/20 at 7 pm in the “200” section - $24 a ticket

To reserve tickets - up to six tickets can be reserved by any person who is a Village resident. The tickets will be held up to one week after reserving. Senior Trip To An Old Fashioned County Fair

The Recreation Department will sponsor a trip to the Old Bethpage Village Restoration during their recreation of a 19 th century county fair. This trip will take place on Tuesday, October 11 th. The Recreation bus will pick up interested seniors at the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane at 9:30 a.m. Lunch is on your own. The cost of this trip will be $7.00. Senior Recreation Group Events

The following workshops for our senior residents will take place at the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane:

Monday, October 3 - “What Do You Know” - Get together with our group to discuss the various reliable people who have helped us fix boilers, roofs, do yard work, and other tasks over the years - some are worth sharing.

Monday, October 10 - Columbus Day, no meeting

Monday, October 17 - Back by popular demand - Helene Peritz , local artist, will lead an art workshop called “Paint Your Dreams”. If you have art supplies, bring them. We will provide paints and paper.

All seniors aged 60 and over who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City are invited to attend these free programs. All programs will take place during our Senior Recreation Group meeting on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at the Garden City Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane unless otherwise stated. Senior Citizen Program Line

The Recreation Department operates a “Senior Information Line” which answers questions about activities offered by the Department for Garden City residents. Seniors may call 465-4190 for this information. In addition, any seniors or family members of seniors with questions about available services for seniors in the village or surrounding areas may call the Garden City Senior Project of the Family and Children’s Association at 292-1300, ext. 2245.

Meeting Your Transportation Needs

Village administration has negotiated discounted taxi rates for seniors with the Village. On Tuesdays, between 10 am and 2 pm, senior fares are free. At other times, senior fares within the village are $4.00.
