Kyle Zarriello enjoys a nice Breakaway as he gears up for a shot on goal. The U-10 Scorpions continue to demonstrate excellent soccer, teamwork and perseverance, winning 1-0 over the Albertson Assault on Sat., Sept. 24th.

The Scorpions began their own assault immediately, with a constant barrage of shots on goal, most notably by forwards Robert Wotczak, Derek Attardi, Taylor Ricci, and Michael Catalano. Dale Stasco and Drew Kiley seem to form a wall in the backfield, not letting many balls through, while Ryan Zarou in the midfield was all over the ball, running with the endurance of an Energizer Bunny!

Drew Kiley's intensity, speed and endurance in the mid- field are great Scorpion assets. In the first half there was no goal scoring by either team, as both Defenses seemed an even match. Goal tender Luke Zeccola beautifully averted the few attempts that Albertson shot his way.

At the beginning of the 2nd half, forward Brian Bingham did a great job keeping the ball in Albertson territory. Striker Danny Simmons broke away and pounded towards the goal, kicking it into the bottom left corner, giving GC a 1-0 lead. A great GC Offensive assault followed.

Highlights: Dale Stasco, running the length of the field along the line, made an awesome slide-kick to keep the ball in bounds and pass to his Offense. Derek Attardi had an aggressive break-away, but was halted by the goalie. Derek, Rob Wotczak, Danny Simmons, and Kyle Zarriello continued to shoot at the goal; Kyle's powerful boot was going in, but missed by inches. Wotczak made a great sliding attempt from the corner that just missed. Even though GC wasn't scoring, the Albertson goal was a "shooting gallery" for the GC boys! And, to give the spectators a show, some amazing air acrobatics were displayed by Danny Simmons and Taylor Ricci.
