Noontime concert on

seventh street

Come join the Recreation Department on Friday, September 9 th at noon for a lunchtime concert on Seventh Street. Blue Heron Entertainment, featuring Susan Shutt, will entertain us with the beautiful jazz sounds of Dizzy Gillespie, Cole Porter, and many others. The concert will take place in the plaza in front of Chico’s and Younique Bow-tique. Bring a lunch and enjoy the music.

pastel classes with

arleen urban

Due to popular demand, the Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays, beginning September 9 th. The classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s. The registration fee for the program will be $105. A list of art supplies to be purchased will be given out at the first class.

This ten week program will teach the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each three hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.

Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at their own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in many Garden City homes.

adult tennis for the fall

The Recreation Department offers adult tennis lessons at our Community Park Tennis Facility in ten week sessions. Our lessons are open to all adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City and are offered at various times during the day and on the weekends.

If you are interested in lessons for the upcoming fall season which begins Saturday, October 1 st, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall to fill out an interest form no later than September 21 st. Classes will then be put together according to ability of the player and day desired. You will be contacted by our tennis pro to confirm your class.

The cost of this 10 week, one hour program will be $199. Payment must accompany this interest form. Please make checks payable to “Inc. Village of Garden City”.

Adult Ultimate Workout - This 1 1/2 hr. workout is for the experienced tennis player who want to hone their skills. It is held on Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m. This program will be offered in 10 week sessions with the following start dates. - October 1 st, and January 7 th. The cost of each session is $200. To register for this program, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

learn and play roller hockey

The Recreation Department is offering roller hockey in a Learn and Play format for children ages 5-7 that are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This program will take place on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. on Community Park’s Hockey Rinks.

The cost of 8 week program is $60. Players must provide their own equipment. To register, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall. For questions, please call Andrew Karen at 483-2525.

children’s indoor instructional tennis program

The Garden City Recreation Department will begin accepting mail in registrations for our children’s indoor tennis program on Wednesday, September 7 th. These classes are held at the Community Park Tennis Facility behind the Garden City Pool. Children ages 4 to 18 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City are invited to participate.

Registration is by mail only. You can register your child for the fall or winter session, or both at this time. However, full payment must accompany registration. Walk-ins will be accepted beginning September 14, 2005.

Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable.

To register : by mail only beginning September 7 th, no walk in registrations will be accepted until September 14 th. We can not be held responsible for delays in the mail. To register, pick up an application at the recreation office in Village Hall. You can also make your own by listing your child’s name, address, phone number, birth date, grade he/she will be entering in September and the session and classes for which your are registering. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation department at 351 Stewart Avenue. Please make all checks payable to the “Inc. Village of Garden City”.
