GCFD Hosts Donation DriveFor Overseas Troops
Assistant Fire Chief Bill Graham of the Garden City Fire Department announced today that the Garden City Fire Department is hosting a donation drive on Sunday, September 11th for the US Troops overseas. Residents are encouraged to stop by the firehouse on Stewart Avenue on the west side of village hall Sunday from 11:00am to 5:00pm to drop off supplies. A list of the needed and requested items is available on the Garden City Fire Department website: WWW.GCFDNY.COM.
"I strongly encourage all residents to view the list of needed items; it is surprising how many of the most need items are just laying around the house unused, from sun block, to disposable razors a little will go along way for those who are far from home " Chief Graham said.
The Drive will be held in conjunction with Give 2 The Troops Inc. which lists the most needed and requested items and ships them to the units that need them most. Following the drive at 5:00pm, there will be a brief memorial service at the Villages 9/11 memorial. All Village residents are invited.
"As we reflect on the fourth anniversary of the September 11th Tragedy, we need to remember the men and woman are fighting to keep us safe. All gave some; some gave all, please give a little," Chief Graham concluded.
