Ladies Golf Champion

Sheila O'Malley of Garden City won the Ladies' Club golf Championship at North Hills Country Club in Manhasset. In the 35th hole of the 36-hole match play, O'Malley sunk the put to dethrone the favored four time Club Champion Susan Salzano. This is the third Club Championship win for O'Malley, but the first while 7 months pregnant. She was also champion in 1998 and 2000. Salzano was reigning champion and also won in 2001, 2003 and 2004..
Mrs. O'Malley lives in Garden City with her husband, Neil, and three children, Jack, 10, Desmond, 8, and Olivia, 5 and one more on the way. O'Malley has enjoyed match play format for ten years on the Ladies' Metropolitan Team. She has been a golfer for 15 years and says, "There's no game in the world like it. The competition is fierce but I find the game relaxing." She also praised her opponent who is her weekly golfing companion, "Susan is a great competitor and brings grace and dignity to the game the way it was meant to be played." Congratulations!
