DAR New Season
Mrs. Margaret Musil, Regent of the Col. Aaron Ogden Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, is pleased to announce the chapter program, for the 2005-2006 season. This marks the 300th birthday of Benjamin Franklin.
The chapter’s season during constitution Week, September 17 th commences with a pilgrimage to the Quaker Meeting House and cemetery to commemorate the Underground Railroad and a station on Long Island.
At the October meeting, Mr. Joshua Soren, Historian of the Town of Hempstead, will speak on the history of Jones Beach. At that meeting, new chapter members will be inducted into the Society.
Col. Aaron Ogden Chapter will be participating again at the annual Garden City Chamber of Commerce street fair on October 29 th. As always, the Chapter will be joining the annual Districts X & XI luncheon to benefit the veteran patients at St. Alban’s and Northport VA Medical Centers.
Captain Jennifer Kamaroski will speak about her experiences in Iraq at the February meeting.
Other highlights include: recognition of Chapter winners of the American Essay and Good Citizenship Awards with a visit from Mrs. Ann Otten, Honorary Senior President President C.A.R., a Talbot’s fashion show and visit from a Revolutionary War Soldier at the annual philanthropic luncheon in April, and a visit from Mrs. Walter L DeVries, Honorary President General in May.
Any woman over the age of eighteen is eligible to join the Daughters of the American Revolution if they can prove their direct descendancy to a patriot or soldier of the Revolutionary War. The society was founded in 1890, to promote Historic, Educational and Patriotic endeavors. The Chapter also sponsors the Sarah Townsend society, Children of the American Revolution for children under the age of eighteen for that can prove their direct descendancy to a patriot or soldier of the Revolutionary War.
