Summer time has arrived; proof is in the Garden City Retired Men's Club's annual cookout. The 2005 version was a great culinary and social success as each man spent a good and cordial time with his village neighbor.
After the sausages, hamburgers, hotdogs, beans, mixed salad and potato salad were depleted the men topped off the lunchtime cookout with ice cream and a few hands of cards. There was even evidence that some men had enjoyed a game of shuffle board. The horseshoes, however, went untouched.
Although the members did a good deal of the work in making the cookout a success, the Club received crucial assistance from the Recreation Department. Two young men, Jeff Alden and Chuck Drawert, set up the tables and long time village resident Rich Anderson withstood the heat of the day and the charcoals to turn the various meats into delectable morsels.

On the horizon the men foresee another great party day when they hold their annual, catered, coed cocktail party. Residents and guests are urged to set aside Sunday afternoon, July 17 and join in this festive, family affair. The tab for the party is $30.00 for each couple paid in advance to the Club and sent to Dr. George Rivara, 14 First Street, Garden City, NY 11530.

For those who wait to pay at the door, the ante is raised to $35.00. However, the Club urges all who plan to attend to save the five bucks, pay in advance so that it can prepare early and fully for the onslaught.
