Knights Play Supporting Roles In Memorial Mass

A rare insight into the depth of participation of members of Msgr. John's Knights (Msgr. John C. Seidenschwang Knights of Columbus) in St. Anne's Parish Mass ceremonies was on display at the 11:45 AM Mass on Sunday. June 12. In short, the supporting roles played by the Knights at this Mass are available to the parish on schedule throughout the year.

Making the insight possible was the cooperation of Fr. Patrick M. "Pat Riegger, Chaplain of the Knights who said the Mass, Grand Knight Jim Cioffi and Past Grand Knight Robert "Bob" McGowan who also has had long service as the Knights' Financial Secretary.

Bob already had reserved the Sunday Mass as a memorial to his late wife, Rose Kelly McGowan who would have celebrated her sixty-eighth birthday on that date. He volunteered to let the Knights join in the Mass to remember all Knights and their kin who had passed away since the founding of Council in July, 1996.

Then he joined Fr. Pat, Jim Cioffi and Bob McAuliffe in pulling together a line-up of Knights to assist at the Mass.

Joining Fr. Pat on the altar was Knight Deacon Jack McGowan. Altar servers included Dan and John Conner, sons of Knight John C.Conner, and Cristina Battista, daughter of Knight Dr. Anthony Battista

Lectors for the two readings were Chancellor Basil Bliss and PGK Jim Dougherty.

Bringing up the gifts for the family were: PGK Bob McAuliffe, wife Eileen and their twins Carmel Marie and Kellie Rose, and PGK Bob McGowan.

Eucharistic Ministers included: PGK Bob Mc Gowan, PGK Bob McAuliffe, Jack McAuliffe, Jay Lynch, Jack Hallissey, Joe Hayes, Joe Palmer, and Paul Barker.

Ushers included Knights Doug Gaeta, Joe Walsh and Mike Boldizar.

After Mass, a proud Fr. Pat confided that his Knights were not only great in serving others and serving at Mass...but they really knew how to serve up their BASEBALL! A busful of 34 "Schwangers" led by Grand Knight Jim Cioffi and DGK Bob Guida recently played host to Fr. Pat in a fun-filled bus trip to visit the Philadelphia Phillies "phantastic" new stadium. They'll soon be comparing its merits with plans for the Mets/ Olympic stadium-to-come in nearby Queens.
