Dr. Ronald S. Feingold Appointed Dean Of Adelphi University School Of Education
May 2005-Adelphi University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Marcia G. Welsh is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ronald S. Feingold as dean of the School of Education. In this post, Dr. Feingold will lead the undergraduate and graduate enrollment of more than 2,000 students, and will spearhead the School's three departments: Curriculum and Instruction; Health Studies, Physical Education and Human Performance Science; and Communication Sciences and Disorders.
"Dean Feingold has an impressive record as an educator and scholar and has shown tremendous dedication to Adelphi University as a faculty member and department chair," said Marcia G. Welsh. "I believe he will set new standards, forge new partnerships, and create new opportunities."
"For more than 100 years, the Adelphi School of Education has prepared students for their role as educators-sharing their passion for teaching and molding future generations," said Dr. Feingold. "I look forward to extending the School's rich and distinguished record of academic excellence, as well as providing students with invaluable hands-on experiences at area schools, service organizations, and Adelphi community outreach programs."
Prior to his appointment as dean, Dr. Feingold served as the chair of the Adelphi Department of Health Studies, Physical Education, and Human Performance Science for more than 30 years. A world-renowned expert on physical education, he has spearheaded leading national and international professional organizations and was a lead writer for the New York State Education Department's current standards in health and physical education. As president of the Association Internationale des Ecoles Superieures d'Education Physique (AIESEP) and executive board member of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), he helped establish a World Summit on Physical Activity for children held in Berlin in 1999 and was on the organizing committee for the Pre-Olympic Congress in Greece.
Dr. Feingold continues to be active at the national level. He is a principal investigator assessing the effectiveness of Physical Best, a national fitness education curriculum, and is spearheading a national recognition program connecting schools to the community. He is a member and past president of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD); the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (NYSAHPERD); and the National Association for Physical Education in Higher Education (NAPEHE). He has been a member of the Long Island Board of the American Heart Association for more than 25 years and previously served as its chair and is a founding member of the North American Society for Leadership in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Dr. Feingold has given over 70 presentations across the globe and has produced over 30 publications and six monographs. He has received the highest honors from the American Heart Association on two occasions and has been recognized by AAHPERD, NAPEHE, NYSAHPERD, the Federation Internationale Physique, and the Eastern District Association of AAHPERD. A long-standing member of the New York Academy of Science, he is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Leaders in Education. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico, an M.Ed. from the University of Arizona, and a B.S. from the University of Illinois.
