The Stephen K. Tompsett Award for Excellence in Leadership
This year, the Trustees were so touched and impressed by one particular applicant for the Math, Science and Technology Award that they decided to grant a very special award for Excellence in Leadership. This Award includes an engraved lucite plaque with the phrase "Family and Faith First" engraved on it. Steve always put family and faith first in every aspect of his short life and this is one of the qualities that made him the beloved leader that he was. The Trustees were pleased to present this Award to Mr. Daniel Sarfin of Garden City High School. This Award also includes a letter of commendation and a check for $500. This Award will not necessarily be given every year.
Stephen K. Tompsett Citizenship and Character Award
The Trustees of the Stephen K. Tompsett Memorial Fund for Technology in Education ("Stephen's Fund") are pleased to announce the winner of the third annual Stephen K. Tompsett Citizenship and Character Award which is presented to a graduating 8th grader from St. Joseph's School. Our 2005 winner is Mr. Charlie O'Leary who the Trustees felt best exemplified Stephen's wonderful qualities of kindness, spirituality and service to others. The winner was announced at the St. Joseph's Graduation Breakfast held at Cherry Valley Country Club on Sunday June 12, 2005. All 8th grade students filled out a questionnaire and submitted a teacher evaluation form to the teacher of their choice. The applications and evaluation forms were then made anonymous and the Trustees chose the winner without knowing the names of the applicants. The Award includes a "Citizenship" medal on green ribbon, engraved with the winner's name as well as a check for $150. Stephen's Fund will grant this Award every
year to a deserving 8th grader at St. Joe's. This year, Steve's family extends a special thank you to Trustees Mrs. Anne Hadlock and Mr. Tom Lilly for accepting the job of deciding the winner. None of the other Trustees were involved in the decision as Steve's daughter and nephew were in the 2005 graduating class.
