A Word From The Publisher
Memorial Day’ is this coming Monday, on this day let’s please remember our dead war heroes. Memorial Day is different from Veterans’ Day in the fact that it honors the war dead. Congresswoman McCarthy sent us her statement regarding this day and this is what she said:
“This Monday we remember the over one million courageous men and women who have given their lives to preserve our freedom throughout America’s history. We should all reflect upon our blessings and remember those who sacrificed all to ensure the American way of life for future generations.
“Once again we will celebrate Memorial Day during a time of war, as brave soldiers from all corners of America risk their lives for freedom far from home. We must support and pay tribute to our troops currently serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world.
“It is important that we remember the families of those who have served and are currently serving our nation. For every troop lost, there is family facing enormous emotional and often times financial hardship. When a soldier pays the ultimate price for our freedom, we must take responsibility for the well-being of the family he or she leaves behind.
“This is why I am so proud the House recently passed legislation increasing the military death benefit to $100,000. Many of those we have lost in Iraq and Afghanistan were the primary earner for their families, so their loss left many young families facing serious financial challenges. We owe it to the brave men and women in our military to make sure their families will be taken care of if the worst occurs.
“No one has stood more strongly for freedom than our troops and their families. We have a moral obligation to honor these patriotic Americans not only in our thoughts and prayers, but in our actions. This Memorial Day take the time to thank a family who lost a loved one while defending our freedom. It is the least we can do to remember their sacrifice.”
Thanks for the words, Carolyn.
