During the 2004-05 school year teachers have had a wide variety of staff development courses to enhance teaching and learning. Recently, Stratford teachers Mary Mathers and Linda Mulrooney conducted a staff development meeting after school for teachers of grades three and four. Their presentation focused on strategies to provide differentiated instruction in math. Classroom teachers got the opportunity to actually construct centers such as the Brain Quest activity. Teachers were also exposed to different methods developing students’ mastery of key math vocabulary. A similar presentation was made to kindergarten and first grade teachers as the spiraling of terms, concepts and skills are essential to a successful mathematics program.
