Easy LAX Home Win For "Team Maroon"!
Jamie Sweet, Katherine Malhame, and Kayla Murphy look for pass from Caroline Beaty
The Garden City Third Grade Girls Maroon Lacrosse team scored another win on Saturday May 7th, with a 5-2 victory over an undermanned Huntington team. Team Maroon received 2 goals each from Katherine Malhame and Jamie Sweet and Zoe Karikas scored on a free shot as they jumped to a large early lead and cruised to victory. Sure passing amongst the forwards Hannah Eilbeck, Haley O'Hanlon, Caroline Beaty and Erin Pfail lead to assists for each. The goalies Megan Cotter and Kelly Lawkins were aided by the strong support of the defense of Sara Ruhl and Melanie McHugh.

The game was played on a windy, rainy day, making passing difficult. However, Team Maroon moved out to an early lead of 4-0. Zoe Karikas got the scoring started with a goal off of the free shot she was awarded. Zoe just missed scoring her second goal within two minutes as her stick just edged across the goal crease and her goal was disallowed. Katherine Malhame two goals in the first half and Jamie Sweet's first of the game were made possible by strong runs by the middies Kayla Murphy and Jackie O'Hare who were all over ground balls, getting four and three ground balls, respectively. Daniella Joyce helped control the game with a ground balls and a strong runs.

With the Team Maroon ahead by four goals throughout most of the second half, ball control was the key. The offense, with Katie McGovern, Kelly Tierney, and Kayla Regan, kept the ball away from the Huntington team for most of the game. Only a late meaningless goal by Huntington closed the gap to the final score of 5-2
