Missing from photo: Matthew Baldessari, Violinist The Long Island String Festival for young string students is a series of rigorous week-long rehearsals of challenging repertoire culminating in a public performance. Students are selected to this highly competitive festival consisting of four divisions divided by age and grade, on the basis of high NYSSMA adjudication scores. Selection to the festival is an honor comparable to that of All-County, however the string festival features only string music, as opposed to All-County which includes woodwinds, brass, percussion and strings performing orchestral works together. The string festival permits advanced string students to work on some of the vast repertoire of great music literature written for strings only.
