During the month of April, seventy-one students from Garden City Middle School participated in the first annual B.R.A.V.E. Poster Contest. The contest was created by members of the school’s anti-bullying club called B.R.A.V.E. which stands for bully reduction anti-violence education. The goal of the contest was to encourage students to think of ways to reduce bullying in our school while showcasing their artistic abilities. The first place winner of the contest was eighth grader Andrea Delgado. Her poster included illustrations of each B.R.A.V.E. leadership strategies. Seventh grader Emily Werner was the second place winner. Her poster emphasized the importance of the bystander role in bullying situations. The third place winner was eighth grader, Elizabeth Slavery. Her poster included a motivational saying, “Why Can’t We Just Get Along?” All posters that were entered in the contest are displayed throughout the Middle School. The club advisor, Mr. Greenwald, was excited to have so many students working together to bring acceptance, tolerance, and happiness to the Garden City Middle School.
