Only three Garden City High School students participated with approximately 130 other college students from New York and California.

The program enables participants to gain firsthand knowledge of contemporary Rome and Italy, along with a challenging academic program that offered insight into Italian Culture, history, heritage and traditions. While in Italy they participated in travel excursions throughout the country, visited major museums and cultural sites. They participated in various group outings to concerts, performances, art exhibits and informal gatherings. They visited Assisi, Florence, Siena, Padua, Venice, Capri and Tivoli.

Each student took two college level courses during their stay. The students said it was a remarkable experience. They developed not only a heightened understanding of another culture, but also of the United States and its role in the world. The students would like to thank Carlos Mazarese for recommending them for acceptance into the program..
