Adelphi University, along with Advocates for Individuals with High Functioning Autism, Asperger's Syndrome and other Pervasive Developmental Disorders (AHA/AS/PDD) and the David Center, is pleased to welcome Dr. Temple Grandin, professor, active international speaker on autism, and noted author, and her mother, Eustacia Cutler, to speak at Adelphi's Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Ave, Garden City, NY, on Wednesday, May 25. The event begins with a book signing at 6:00 p.m. followed by a lecture at 7:00 p.m.

Throughout her career, Dr. Grandin, who was diagnosed with autism at age two, has authored numerous books on autism, been regularly quoted in print articles, and featured in television programs. Her love of animals inspired her to pursue a career in animal science and to invent improvements to the animal handling systems found in meat plants. In her most recent book, Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior, she uses her training, as well as her condition, to provide insight into the way animals think and feel. Dr. Grandin earned a Ph.D. in animal science from the University of Illinois, an M.S. in animal science from Arizona State University, and a B.A. from Franklin Pierce College. Her mother, Eustacia Cutler, is the author of a book on autism from a parent's perspective.
