Nine Garden City students attended a Human Awareness conference at Hofstra University in February. Several of the workshops discussed issues of tolerance, free speech and political expression. Maria Sliwa, a human rights activist and former New York City Police officer, was the afternoon keynote speaker. Ms. Sliwa discussed current slavery situations and other human rights violations throughout the world.
