GCHS Varsity Baseball
The Varsity Baseball Team won three Conference Cross-Over games and a Non-League Contest this past week to improve to 6-0 (5-0 Conference)
GC 17 v.s. North 6
Tom D’Antonio highlighted a 5 run 1st inning with a grand slam home run. D’Antonio’s second home run of the day gave GC a 9-0 lead after 3 innings. D’Antonio tied a school record with 8 RBI’s to join Matt Casey (1998) and John Maloney (2000).
The 12 hit offense was led by D’Antonio (3-3) and Matt Petiton (3-3).
GC 6 v.s. Mineola 3
Joe Cesarini earned the win yielding 1 earned run on 4 hits.
The Trojans broke a 2-2 tie in the 4th inning on an error and infield out.
Brothers John and Matt Emmert each had 2 hits.
GC 16 v.s. Seaford 0
Matt Petiton yielded 1 hit over five innings striking out 13. Senior Kevin Rice closed out the game pitching 2 scoreless innings.
The 16 hit Trojan offense was led by Tom Marino (3-5); Matt Emmert (3-4); John Emmert (2-4) and Terence Hartigan (2-4).
GC 9 v.s. Glen Cove 6
In a rematch of last season’s Nassau County Class A Finals The Trojans outlasted Glen Cove.
GC fell behind 2-0 after 4 innings. After the Trojans tied the game at 2 apiece, Mike Noone’s 3 run home run gave GC a 5-2 lead in the top of the 5th inning. Glen Cove took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the 5th.
Matt Emmert led off the 6th with a base hit, moved to 2nd on a sac bunt by Rob Finneran. Joe Cesarini’s RBI single tied the game. Matt Petiton hit a 3 run home run as the Trojans scored 4 runs to take a 9-6 lead.
John Emmert in relief of Mike Noone earned the win pitching 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball.
