Fourth Grade RamsRed Downs Seaford

2005-04-15 / Sports

On a perfect spring Sunday, a day a young boy could play lacrosse from sun up to sun down, the 4th grade Garden City Rams Red team traveled to Seaford for their first lacrosse game on the road. The Seaford team was big and played a very physical game. There were a lot of body checks from the Seaford Vikings but not enough to throw the boys of Garden City off their game. Our boys came to play and earned a 9-5 victory and improved their record to 2-0.

During the week the coaches, Tim Worstell, John Walsh, Michael Dooley and Ed Blatz, emphasized the importance of ground balls and winning face offs. The Rams dominated both by picking up over 40 ground balls and dominating the face off circle. The Attackmen led by Keith Danks, Jack Worstell, Matt Heffner, Mike Walsh and Dan Weis kept the Rams ahead the entire game. The midfielders Brian Badgett, Ryan Dooley, Matt Ventre, Ed Blatz, Mike Perotta, John Kramer, Jack O'Brien and Mike Paxton played a great game on offense and defense. Defensemen Cory Fallon, Sean Walsh and Oliver Webber were superb in stifling a talented Seaford attack. Drew Gallagher and Marc Schwenderman were unavailable for the contest and were sorely missed.

This week our young men prepare for a tough contest on Sunday against a perennial powerhouse Huntington. This is a critical test for the Rams who once again play on the road. The team is starting to come together and the boys are seeing the results of playing a team game coupled with every boy making an individual contribution. This GC Rams Red team is up to the challenge and continues to improve with each practice. There's no telling how good this team will be. Onward GC Rams Red and Godspeed!
