Mustangs OT Win

On Sunday April 3, 2005 Garden City U-16 boy's team came back to win against the Hurricanes 2-1. Mustangs traveled to Syosset Stillwell field for an exciting soccer Waldbaum's Challenge match. The midfielders Chris Pirog, Chris Dioguardi, Sebastian Gomez, Matt Colantonio, RJ Giamboi, Brian Wysocki and Dan Lisoski used fast passing and skillful dribbling in the game. The steady defense Blaise Ancona, Justin Kirschner, Chris Agiato and the defensive captain James Ladner pressured and frustrated the Hurricanes. Kevin Volpe the keeper had seven huge saves and played solid in the net. The attack Manny Messina and Alex Buck were focused and committed to create scoring opportunities. Syosset started the game fast and furious. Hurricanes played physical and kept attacking Garden City. The first half ended nil nil. The Hurricanes scored at the start of the second half.

After Syosset took the lead they started to play more defensive. The Mustangs started to put some combination passes together and create some scoring chances. The Garden City boys have been behind many times before. Chris D. drives up the right side and turns towards the goal chips the ball to Manny who directs it in the net 1-1. The Mustangs ball distribution in the second half gave the Hurricanes a tough time. Regulation time ended with the game tied. The Mustangs put heavy pressure on the Syosset defense in the overtime period. In the sixth minute of overtime Blaise throws in the ball Matt heads it to Manny who passes in front to Dan who slams the winning goal by the keeper 2-1. Garden City boys again dig down deep to come from behind and win against a tough opponent. The coaches Joe Ancona, Matt Monte, and John Fodera praised the players for not giving up. The Mustangs determination and experience combined for a jubliant victory.
