On April 26 at 7 pm at the Senior Recreation Center, Elder Care experts Sheila Mansfield, Patient Care; Michael Pfeifer, Esq; and Ann Recht, LMSW Geriatric Care Manager will meet with interested residents on decisions concerning our senior population.
This discussion is open to any interested resident regardless of age. Be prepared for decisions concerning aging parents. Learn about healthcare options to ensure quality of life. No reservations are necessary.
performance at adelphi’s olmsted theatre
The Recreation Department has secured a group of tickets to Adelphi University’s Friday, May 6 th performance of “Dance Adelphi”. Showtime is 1 p.m.
Each semester “Dance Adelphi” puts on a new production featuring their finest college students both as performers and choreographers. This semester’s show will prove to be an exciting event to watch.
Through the generosity of Adelphi, tickets to this performance are free and are available to any senior citizen who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Tickets are limited. The Recreation Department will create a list of seniors interested in reserving a ticket for this performance. To reserve a ticket, please call or visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.
Join Us On A Trip To The Museum Of The Moving Image
The Recreation Department will sponsor a trip to the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria on Wednesday, April 20 th. This trip is open to any senior resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Our group will be given a “Behind the Scene” tour of the museum and then spend several hours enjoying the many interactive exhibits and displays. Transportation will be provided by a Recreation bus. The bus will leave the parking lot across from the Senior Recreation Center at 10 a.m. The cost of this trip will be $10. To Register for this trip, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall. Payment must accompany registration and be received in cash, no checks accepted.
Senior Recreation Group
The Recreation Department sponsors a Senior Discussion Group that meets at the Senior Recreation Center every Monday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City aged 60 or older is invited to attend this group.
Senior Recreation Group Events
The following workshops for our senior residents will take place at the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane:
Monday, April 18 - “How to Protect Yourself against Identity Theft” - Attend this important meeting to become an informed and safe consumer. James W. Reed, Deputy Commissioner for the Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs, will again visit our group to speak about Internet safety, foreign bases scams, Lotto “opportunities”, and other ways that our senior population is swindled. He will also explain ways to secure personal and financial information. There will be an opportunity to have your questions answered.
Monday, April 25 - Workshop on Senior Wellness - This workshop will focus on nutrition and healthy eating. Learn the difference between fads and facts. Bridget Berran from Adelphi University’s Adult Fitness Program will lead this workshop and the question and answer period following.
All seniors aged 60 and over who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City are invited to attend these free programs. All programs will take place during our Senior Recreation Group meeting on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at the Garden City Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane. Nassau County’s Able Ride Program
Able-Ride is a special bus service for people with disabilities. Able-Ride provides transportation for people who are unable to use fixed route bus service for some or all of their trips. Age, distance from a bus, or inability to drive are not taken into consideration in making an eligibility determination.
You and a licensed health care profession of your choice must complete the Able-Ride application. The application is then evaluated and, if accepted, you will be issued an ID card and given further instructions. One way fare for this program is $3.50.

Empire State Senior Games
The State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is accepting application for the 2005 Empire State Senior Games, which will be held in Cortland from June 7-12. Applications are available at county offices for the aging and all Long Island State Parks. The registration deadline for individuals is May 6.
