Salvatore Cannizzaro
Salvatore Cannizzaro of Garden City died on March 28th at the age of 87. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Polytechnic University with a Master's degree, going on to teach at Cooper Union, Hofstra Polytech. He was an engineer at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and was then employed with Republic Aviation and Grumman Aerospace, specializing in hydraulics and working on multiple aircraft, including the F-14 Tomcat and the A-6. Mr. Cannizzaro was a generous benefactor, establishing scholarships for graduate students at Hofstra and Polytech. He was the loving husband of the late Rita for 24 years and the late Julia for 9 years. Mr. Cannizzaro is survived by his sister, Gertrude Wolfe and his children, Lynn (Robert) Hargraves, John (Nancy) Cannizzaro and Joseph (Joanne) Cannizzaro. He was the cherished grandfather of Peter, Robert, Brenda, Michael, Rita and Tommy. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Garden City on March 31st. Interment followed at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY. The arrangements were handled by Fairchild Sons.
