Scottish Fiddler To Perform At Waldorf
You are invited to hear Paul Anderson, one of Scotland's premier fiddle players, perform at The Waldorf School of Garden City. The recital will take place on Tuesday, April 5, at 7:30 pm in the Library. Everyone is welcome.
A regular on Scottish TV and radio, Paul has toured extensively and has recorded seven solo albums. Although only in his early thirties, Paul is already an icon in Scotland, a fact duly recognized by two specially commissioned portraits of him, a life-size one in Aberdeen Art Gallery and a study that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. In the tradition of many of Scotland's great fiddlers, Paul is also a composer of some repute, having written some 200 pieces in the traditional style, 101 of which are already published in "The Cromar Collection". These stand comparison with the best works in the fiddle cannon. Having won most of the fiddle competitions in Scotland, Paul Anderson's crowing glory was winning the Glenfiddich Scottish Fiddle Championship at Blair Castle in 1995.

Lecture On Autism Disorders
Winthrop-University Hospital's Parenting Today program will present a free lecture, "ABC's of Autism Spectrum Disorders" on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at 7:00 PM. Held at Winthrop's Community Outreach Center at 101 Mineola Boulevard at the corner of Second Street in Mineola, the program will address critical information about recognizing indicators and available treatments.
The statistics are alarming. A growing number of children are being diagnosed with autism - a disorder characterized by varying degrees of impairment in communications skills, social interactions, and restricted, repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior.
Patricia Elvir, MD, Attending Physician at Winthrop, will explain autism and discuss symptoms, treatment and controversies surrounding the disorder. Patricia R. Bashe, MSEd, The David Center, will address behavioral intervention and education. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
Parking is available in the rear of the building. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Attendees are asked to arrive at 6:45 PM for registration. To reserve your space, call 1-877-559-KIDS.
The Parenting Today program is coordinated by Children's Health Services and the Department of Pediatrics, part of the Institute for Family Care at Winthrop. For information on other community education programs, call 1-866-WINTHROP.
