'Shortness of Breath'Topic of Free Lecture
Winthrop-University Hospital's Health Update for Seniors program will present a free lecture, "Shortness of Breath: Causes and Treatments," on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 1:45 PM. Held at the Mineola Community Center at 155 Washington Avenue in Mineola, the program will focus on how seniors can deal with this condition.
Shortness of breath has a variety of causes and can make daily activities a struggle. However, those affected by a lung condition can learn ways to ease their lives.
Mara Bernstein, LRT, a respiratory therapist from Winthrop's Pulmonary Division, will discuss causes of shortness of breath, diagnostic tests and treatment options, including optimizing medications and pulmonary rehabilitation. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
Blood pressure checks will be available between 1:15 and 1:45 PM. Admission is free, but seating is limited. To reserve your space, call (516) 663-3916.
Health Update for Seniors is coordinated by the Winthrop Home Health Agency and Geriatric Health Services, part of the Institute for Family Care. For information on other community education programs at Winthrop, call 1-866-WINTHROP.
