Adelphi Welcomes Renowned Scientist
Adelphi University welcomes renowned scientist, Harry B. Gray when he speaks on campus April 13, 2005. His lecture entitled, "Powering the Planet: Fuel from Sunlight and Water" will be held at 7:00 p.m. in Adelphi's Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City. The event is free and open to the public.
Harry Gray is one of the leading scientists in modern inorganic chemistry. Among his numerous awards, Dr. Gray received the National Medal of Science from President Ronald Reagan, the Wolf Foundation Prize (Israel), and the 2004 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Chemistry. Gray is currently the Arnold O. Beckman Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Beckman Institute at the California Institute of Technology.
Gray earned a Ph.D. in 1960 from Northwestern University where he began working on inorganic chemistry. Dr. Gary has received numerous awards for his outstanding contributions to the world of science, including: the Pauling Medal, the Linderstrom-Lang Prize, the Gibbs Medal, the Chandler Medal, the Harvey Prize, six national awards from the American Chemical Society, and twelve honorary doctorates. He was California Scientist of the Year in 1988 and during 1997-98 he was the George Eastman Professor at the University of Oxford.
