Buckley Welcomes New Camp Director
Doug Bartlett, new Buckley Country Day Camp Director, with his wife, Christina, and their two dogs, Piper and Maggie.
Buckley Country Day School's Headmaster, Dr. Jean-Marc Juhel, has announced that after a long and extensive nation-wide search, Mr. Doug Bartlett has been appointed Buckley's new Camp Director.
Mr. Bartlett graduated Cum Laude from Humbold State University, California, with a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation Administration and a minor in Business. Between 1993 and 2003, he was employed by the Orme Summer Camp as counselor, assistant director, and for five years, as director. At Orme, an Arizona independent boarding school, Mr. Barlett also taught mathematics and computer science, coached softball, volleyball and soccer, was responsible for the school's outdoor education curriculum, and served as admissions associate. Most recently, Mr. Bartlett was the Executive Director of Telluride Academy, Colorado, a non-profit day and trip camp serving a population of over 800 campers, ages 4-17.
It does not take long to realize that Doug Bartlett's passion lies in camp, "clearly where his heart is," as one of his references commented. He talks of camp as providing not only fun and learning for campers, but also life-changing experiences. His colleagues and supervisors describe him as "an outstanding, ethical, and proactive leader, running a camp of the highest quality."
Doug will be moving to Long Island to start in his new position on March 14. His wife Christina, a fellow camp director, and their two dogs, Piper and Maggie, will join him. This was a long process, but as Tom DePaola, Intermediate Camp Division Head, put it, "It was well worth the wait!"
For over twenty years, Buckley Country Day Camp has offered thousands of children- ages 3 to 15 years old-summer experiences rich in discovery, friendship, and just plain fun.
