Patrick Smally To Receive Community Achievement Award

At its third annual Pineapple Ball and 79th Annual Meeting at the Garden City Hotel on Friday evening, April 22, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce will proudly present to Patrick S. Smalley, Executive Vice President of Fairhaven Properties and The Garden City Hotel, the prestigious Community Achievement Award. Established in 1974, this recognition commemorates outstanding professionalism and major contributions to the Village of Garden City through one's occupation. The Chamber recognizes Mr. Smalley for his consistent dedication and exemplary efforts toward the welfare of the Garden City community and well beyond. "Long Island is a special place, thanks to the leadership of people like Patrick Smalley," said Dan Flynn, Senior Vice President, Concorde Real Estate Company, who will be Mr. Smalley's presenter at the Pineapple Ball.
Since joining the Garden City Hotel in 1996, Patrick Smalley has been active in community and civic affairs. In 1996 he was appointed by the mayor of Garden City to serve on the Village's Business Planning Coalition, which developed a plan for the revitalization of Garden City's business districts. In the days immediately following the tragic events of September 11, 200l, Mr. Smalley facilitated the opening of The Garden City Hotel to the American Red Cross to serve as a central location for an emergency Crisis Community Intervention Center that could accommodate family members and friends of victims. In 2004, Smalley teamed the Garden City Hotel with the Freedom Calls Foundation, an organization authorized by the secretary of the Army to provide communication services to the troops and their families. Using live video-conferencing from the Garden City Hotel the joint effort connected American soldiers at war in Iraq with their families back home on Christmas Eve.
In 2003, Patrick Smalley was named "Executive of the Year" by the Mental Health Association of Nassau County and was honored at their 50th Anniversary Gala for his outstanding leadership in business and service to the community.
An executive board member of the Adelphi University Alumni Association and chairman of their Financial Resources Committee, Mr. Smalley also stays involved with the Waldorf School of Garden City, a private preparatory school for which he has previously served as a Trustee. He has served as the sponsor and co-host of The Leadership Roundtable which brings business and community leaders together to explore solutions to challenges facing the Long Island community. Mr. Smalley has participated as a panelist on topics concerning real estate and community development and his opinions are often sought by journalists.
As executive vice president of Fairhaven Properties, Inc., Mr. Smalley advises ownership on organizational, financial and market strategies and the implementation of major decisions concerning firm direction, asset management, capital formation, resource allocation, and new business opportunities. Fairhaven Properties, Inc. develops, manages and invests in apartment and hospitality real estate. Prior to joining Fairhaven Properties in 1996, Patrick Smalley spent 10 years as a real estate investment banker, last serving as a director of real estate investments at Legg Mason Real Estate Services, Inc.
Patrick Smalley holds a B.A. degree in business communication from Adelphi University. He holds New York State licenses for general real estate appraiser and real estate broker. He is also a member of the Real Estate Board of New York, and of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. Mr. Smalley is a Certified Hospitality Administrator (CHA) and member of the American Lodging Association. He resides in Garden City with his son, Christopher
