On Saturday, February 12, Twigs held “A Night on Bourbon Street” at the Cherry Valley Country Club co-chaired by Christine Hanson and Debra Weber. The highlight of the evening was the naming of local resident Liz Menges as the 2004 Auxilian of the Year, a recognition award for volunteerism given by the Women’s Auxiliary of Winthrop University Hospital.

Daniel Walsh, President and CEO of Winthrop University Hospital, was on hand to recognize Liz and present her with a beautiful diamond tennis bracelet on behalf of Twigs and Winthrop University Hospital. In addition, many school board and PTA members, including Superintendent Dr. Stephen Leitman, Dr. Marie Braccia and Maureen Cornacchia, attended the event to honor Liz and her commitment to Twigs. In addition to the speakers who praised Liz, many residents submitted glowing tributes to her that were printed in the evening’s program.
The lucky winners of the $1,000 drawing were Bernhard and Alicia Fischer, who generously donated their winnings back to Twigs of Winthrop University Hospital.
Kevin and Michele Harrington, John Broder, Debra & Bob Weber and Pam and Steve Peck enjoyed the festivities.
This event raised more than $15,000, thanks to the generosity of the sponsors, donors and attendees of the evening. On behalf of Bobby Menges, who has been a patient at Winthrop Hospital’s Pediatric Unit for treatment of cancer and the Menges family, a portion of the proceeds from this event will provide all the rooms in the Pediatric Unit with Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon channels.
Dr. Joseph Greensher, vice chair of the Winthrop Pediatric Dept., has known Liz Menges and family for many years.
