Garden City Grapplers Devastate Bethpage
Once again the Grapplers woke up early on a cold morning and entered an enemy arena. Once again the Grapplers were highly successful and brought home the most Trophies. The team sent only 19 boys to this tournament. These 19 boys were all tigers and every single one of them brought home an award.
Brothers Andrew and Alex Wood wrestled terrifically for beginners and both boys now have awards proudly displayed in their home. Brothers Jack and Thomas Reina grappled with determination as they both had two big victories. These boys are quickly becoming excellent wrestlers. Kyle Castoria and Matt Jones wrestled with a lot of heart as they both had huge victories. With a little more experience both boys will be tough to beat. Sean Kiley and Chris Loew also had very nice victories as both boys showed off their array of moves.
Timmy Halaby, Matt Masullo and Michael Lofrese all had two great victories each and looked dominating. All three earned their trophies. Michael’s victory over a 2 time state champion had to be the teams highlight. Timmy and Matty each had a sweet pin to add to their seasons totals. Brothers Danny and Johnny Simmons are such nice boys, but if you see them on a wrestling mat, you should run the other way. Both brothers brought home the gold. Michael Massaro always seems to have to wrestle the toughest guy in the tournament. Today, he looked like the toughest as he brought home a first place trophy.
Brothers Timmy and Matt Schmelzinger cut through their opponents like a scissor through loose leaf. The brothers both won gold and barely built up a sweat. Obviously the sweat in the training room has paid off.
James Sullivan is getting so good it’s hard to find competition for him at his own age and weight. James brought his gold home in dominating fashion. Danny Jones and Joey Barbato both brought home gold medals. They both had to fight through tough competition to achieve them and both were up to the task.
Coach Lofrese seemed very happy with his team. He stated that it’s nice to see the boys hard work paying off.
