police report: mischief & mayhem:

garden city police along with Nassau County detectives are investigating an attempted robbery, which occurred on January 18 at 9:25 pm. Three men described as black exited a dark-colored four door car and approached a 48-year-old Garden City man who was walking a dog along Osborne Rd. at Witherill Rd. The three men, armed with baseball bats, demanded the victim’s wallet and patted down his pockets. The man had nothing and the men fled in a car being driven by a fourth man. There were no injuries reported. Police believe that the robbers also committed two other robberies, that same evening in Baldwin and East Meadow. However, in those incidents, the victims were injured....on january 18, police held a watch for aggressive driving in high accident areas throughout the Village. Tickets were issued for: excessive speed (3); red lights (3); stop signs (2); passing a school bus (1); unsafe lane change (2); cell phone (2); tinted windows (1) and 2 for miscellaneous....on january 12, 11:35 pm, PO Schichtel stopped a suspicious auto in County Field 7 and arrested the motorist for Felony aggravated unlicensed operation (11 suspensions, 10 dates)....on january 16, 5:05 am, PO Hickey arrested a 25-year-old Queens woman for alleged DWI (.12%) and alleged speeding on Stewart Ave....on january 15, 6 pm, PO Dempsey arrested a 34-year-old Hempstead man for the possession of crack cocaine at the Mobil Gas station on Franklin Avenue....between jan. 14 and 15, someone punctured 4 tires, valued at $400, on a 1988 Dodge Ram, at Nassau Blvd....Also on Jan. 15, 10:55 pm, PO Hickey arrested a 42-year-old Baldwin man for alleged speeding and for aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree (11 suspensions, 5 dates) on Washington Ave....on january 13, a truck stop was held on Clinton Rd. and the DOT was on the scene 87 trucks were inspected; 14 tickets were issued; 13 for overweight and 1 confiscated license. Nine trucks were taken out of service....

fire responses:

on jan. 12, the FD applied speedidry to mitigate a spill after an auto accident occurred on Rockaway Avenue....on jan. 13, a booster was used to mitigate a spill on Franklin Ave....smoke from a dishwasher caused alarm at a Harrison St. residence on Jan 13....wires arced at a Euston Rd. house on the same day....a power outage activated an alarm system at the Adelphi University School of Social Work on Jan. 14....a handicapped person was removed from the second floor to the ground floor at the Hy Weinburg Center, Adelphi University, on Jan. 14....steam leaking from a pipe caused a smoke detector to be activated at the GC High School on January 15....an odor of natural gas was reported at a Kilburn Rd. house on Jan. 16 but nothing was found....a discarded christmas tree was found ablaze on the railroad tracks near St. James St. South on Jan. 16....on Jan. 17, the FD removed a person who had been stuck on an elevator at Firecom, Fifteenth St....firemen use a pump to remove water at a Locust St. house on Jan. 19.
