Summer Program Forum

2005-01-21 / Community

Parents looking for a different and enriching summer experience for their children are invited to the Summer Camp and Enrichment Program and Open House on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. Sponsored by Garden City AGATE is a service to the community, this evening gives parents the chance to obtain information about day camps and programs on Long Island as well as residential programs in the surrounding area.

Music, science, math and the arts are among the types of summer programs and camps that will be featured at the open house. Camp programs for all ages, from kindergarten through high school will be represented, and approximately twenty different camps and programs are expected to attend. Among those attending last year were the USDAN Center for the Performing Arts, The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, The Dolan DNA Learning Center, Day Jams Rock and Roll Camp, and The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Due to the success of last year’s Open House, more camps and programs have been invited.

To accommodated the larger number of camps and enrichment programs participating this year, the large meeting room in the lower level of the library will be set up with a display of materials for each attending camp and program. Many camps will also be sending personal representatives to answer questions, giving parents a unique opportunity to learn more about the programs offered. The camps will not give formal presentations about their programs this year, in order to give parents more time to visit all of the camps and programs that interest them.

All are invited to attend this worthwhile event. There is no admission fee. Garden City AGATE is a non-profit organization that is a chapter of the statewide AGATE organization. AGATE members will be able to renew their memberships at the open house and applications for new memberships will be available. Any inquiries about the open house or AGATE can be directed to Laura Bauer at 746-7115.
