Association Elects Monte N. Redman as Chairman of its National Board of Directors
The Tourette Syndrome Association, Inc. (TSA) recently elected officers and members of its 2004 national Board of Directors. Monte N. Redman of Garden City, New York, has been elected as Chairman of the Association's Board.
Mr. Redman earned his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the New York Institute of Technology and graduated magna cum laude. He is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Astoria Financial Corporation and its subsidiary Astoria Federal Savings and Loan Association. Mr. Redman's current responsibilities include, among other things, Astoria's accounting operations, financial, management and tax reporting, investments, financial planning, asset review, mergers and acquisitions, and investor relations. Mr. Redman is Chairman of Astoria's Asset & Liability Management Committee and Asset Classification Committee and is a member of the Company's Executive Committee, Investment Committee and Information Systems Steering Committee.
Mr. Redman joined the TSA Board of Directors in 1995 and has served as Treasurer, and more recently, First Vice Chair. He and his wife, Carolyn, have two children, including a son who was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at the age of 8. "Coping with daily life in a family touched by Tourette Syndrome (TS), and seeing first hand how a misinformed public reacts to the disorder, I became determined to help make a positive difference for other families in similar situations" said Mr. Redman.
Mr. Redman is also a member of the America's Community Bankers' Accounting Committee and the Community Bankers' Association of New York State Accounting and Tax Committee.
Marked by involuntary twitches and vocal tics, TS is an inherited, neurobiological disorder frequently misunderstood and misdiagnosed, affecting more than 200,000 Americans.
