Edible Valentine Workshop
The Young Adult Department of the Garden City Public Library is conducting an “Edible Valentine Workshop” for Garden City cardholders in grades 6-12 on Saturday, February 12 from 2-3:30 p.m.
Join instructor Sue Bazzicalupo to design your own large edible chocolate cookie for that special someone. Learn decorating techniques with rich chocolate icing, heart candies and other valentine treats.
Registration is necessary and begins on Saturday, January 29 at 9 a.m. at the Reference Desk. This program is brought to you free of charge thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Garden City Public Library.
Book Discussion
The Young Adult Department of the Garden City Public Library is conducting a book discussion for Garden City Public Library cardholders in grades 6-12 on Saturday, February 26 from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Join the Young Adult Librarian and other young adults for refreshments and discussion of Surviving The Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan. In this Newbery Honor award-winning novel, Jake, a budding juvenile delinquent, is sent for home schooling to the arty and eccentric Applewhite family’s Creative Academy, where he discovers talents and interests he never knew he had.
Register at the Reference Desk beginning Saturday, January 29 and pick up a copy of the book.
News From The Children’s Room
Everyone loves the Summer Reading Club at the Garden City Public Library each year.
New! The Children's Department is holding a Winter Reading Club - Join the IditaREAD! Registration and the club began on January 17th and conclude February 5th. Like the Summer Reading Club each child is asked to read and/or listen to an age appropriate number of books. Once this is done and recorded on a reading record the reading record is brought back to the Children's Room and redeemed for a prize.
The extremely popular Guessing Game Jars are a part of the Winter Reading Club. Each week there will be a jar filled with different items and all Garden City children preschool through grade 5 are invited to guess the number of the items in the jar. The guesser who comes closest to the actual number wins a mystery prize or the contents of the jar.
