Robert McMillan Kicks Off The GOP New Year With Healing The Healthcare System
Healing The Healthcare System will be the topic of discussion Wednesday, January 12, 8:00, PM at the Senior Recreation Center. Prominent guest speaker, Robert McMillan will offer remarks and commentary about our healthcare system in addition, he will offer some entertaining “political minutes” as well. “We are very fortunate to have Robert McMillan” join us this evening as he brings to our meeting such great depth and experience,” remarked Tom Muscarella. “Mr. McMillan currently practices as an attorney and also CO-hosts Face-Off, that can be viewed on PBS television, so we consider his acceptance to be with us a great start to the new year’s program.”
Mr. McMillan has a wonderful history of public service that includes serving under several United States Presidents and was named by President George Bush to the Board of the Panama Canal Commission. He also holds the distinction of being the first person who was not an official of the Department of Defense to serve as Chairman of this Commission. But blazing new trails is nothing new to Bob McMillian. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association, and is the first non-physician to serve on that Board and WellChoice Inc. (Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield.)
During the course of his business career, Mr. McMillan was employed by Avon Products, Inc. for sixteen years. As a corporate officer of Avon for ten years, he was responsible, at various times, for Avon’s Asia-Pacific businesses; International Legal Affairs; Worldwide Government Affairs; Personnel; Public Relations; the Avon Foundation; Worldwide Data Processing Systems; Women’s Sports Programs; and Community Affairs. Before joining Avon, Mr. McMillan served as an Honor Graduate Attorney in the Anti-Trust Division of the United States Department of Justice; Counsel to US Senator Kenneth B. Keating; and Special Assistant to Richard M. Nixon prior to his Presidency.
In 1987, Mr. McMillan founded the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc. and served as its Chairman until 2001. The Partnership is the first suburban coalition in the United States of business, banking, labor, religious organizations and institutions of higher learning to build and facilitate the construction of affordable housing. In between he also ran a strong campaign to represent New York in the United States Senate traveling across the state bringing his enthusiasm and benevolence along.
