Cathedral Holds Annual Lessons & Carols Service
Gentlemen of the Choir, Christian Siener, Richard Scillia and Garden City resident James Ludwig reviewed their music.
The Cathedral of the Incarnation held its annual Lessons and Carols service on Sunday, December 19. The service consists of Bible readings anticipating the birth of Christ followed by the full Cathedral Choir singing Christmas hymns and carols.
The service, built largely upon ancient models, was revived in 1880 by Archbishop Benson for use at Truro Cathedral. It has been firmly established as a preparation for Christmas by use at King’s College, Cambridge, on which service the Cathedral’s is based. It was first performed in Garden City in 1953.
Members of Schola Cantorum, the women’s choir, Chris LeSueur, Katie Guy and Sondra Peeden.
The Right Reverend Rodney Michel, provost of the Cathedral and the Reverend Joseph Sanghoon Pae, assistant priest, presided at the service. The choirs were conducted by Larry Tremsky, canon musician, and accompanied on the organ by Maxine Thevenot, associate organist & choirmaster.
