To find answers to their many questions about whales, their habitat and physical characteristics such as body and bone structure, Homestead kindergartners visited the Theodore Roosevelt nature center at Jones Beach. This hands-on learning environment enabled these curious whale enthusiasts to explore a mystery bone discovery cave to unearth buried whalebones. They measured to validate their best guesses about the size of the humpback and pilot whale and learned that the blue whale was the largest. An action-packed, excitement-filled day of learning which integrated listening, speaking, estimating, counting, and graphing was completed with students making their very own sea life craft.
