Comm. Club Presents, “Future Of Healthcare”

2004-12-17 / Front Page

On Tuesday, January 5 th, at 1:30 p.m., The Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead will present its first program of the new year at the Garden City Casino, a timely discussion on the Future of Health Care in the United States. Our speaker will be Robert R. McMillan, who was elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association in June 2002, the first non-physician to ever serve on that board. He also serves on the Board of Directors of WellChoice, Inc. and is a partner in the law firm of Fischbein, Badillo, Wagner and Harding in Melville.

After running for the U.S. Senate in 1988 Mr. McMillan was named by the first President George Bush to the Board of the Panama Canal Commission and confirmed by the U.S. Senate for the post on November 19, 1989. On October 27, 1993, Mr. McMillan was elected Chairman to the Commission’s Board of Directors - the first person who was not an official of the Department of Defense to serve as Chairman. He presided through October 1994.

In 1987, Mr. McMillan founded the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc. and served as its Chairman until 2001. The Partnership is the first suburban coalition in the United States of business, banking, labor, religious organizations and institutions of higher learning to build and facilitate the construction of affordable housing.

Many of you may recognize Mr. McMillan from television - he co-hosts Face-Off, a PBS TV show seen throughout the metropolitan New York area.

With Mr. McMillan’s knowledge and wide background in the AMA, law, government and business we are sure to gain valuable insight into the planned health and Medicare reforms of the future. Please be sure to join us on January 5, 2005 for this interesting and informative program. Bring a guest!
