Village Snow Rules

The Department of Public Works has completed its most successful street leaf removal season. Director of Public Works, Robert Mangan, noted, “We are now preparing for the winter season by removing the leaf boxes from our dump trucks and mounting our sand/salt spreaders. As with leaf season, we are asking residents’ cooperation during snow storms by removing vehicles from the streets when plowing is expected and keeping them off until plowing is completed. Residents and business owners are reminded to clear sidewalks within 24 hours of a snowfall and not to direct snow blowers into the street”. Snow is to be cleared onto your property either with a shovel or snowblower. If you contract out your snow removal, please advise your contractor of this requirement.

The Department of Public Works urges the residents not go out during or immediately after a snow storm unless it is really necessary. Crews have many hours of hard work to clear away the snow. Less traffic on the roads means the crews will be able to do their job more quickly and completely. Under the best conditions, it will take 8 to 10 hours after the snow has stopped falling to complete the snow removal operations from the 75 miles of Village Streets, 48 acres of parking fields and miles of Village sidewalks.

Snow removal is an arduous and time-consuming task. Please understand that the Department of Public Works cannot shovel out your driveway entrance nor can it plow out any private property.
