Two Garden City teens were arrested on December 11th after they allegedly attempted to steal a large balloon depicting the Sponge Bob cartoon character from the roof of a Westbury Burger King.
Nassau County Police arrested the pair of seventeen year-olds after they allegedly climbed a ladder to access the roof of the restaurant and cut some cables which tethered the balloon. The restaurant was open at the time of the incident. The balloon, a promotional material for the new Sponge Bob Squarepants movie, was valued at $500.
Other thefts of the balloons have been noted nationwide. The Garden City teens were charged with fourth-degree attempted grand larceny and possession of burglars tools.
