Garden City Student Aid and Scholarship Fund President Marie Fischer, center, welcomes new board members Pat Castel and Gary Fochesto. The Garden City Student Aid and Scholarship Fund continues to provide student loans and scholarships to assist graduates of Garden City High School. The Fund, first established in 1935 as the PTA Student Loan Fund, was reorganized in 1998 after the receipt of a sizable bequest from the estate of Julia Maloney, a former Garden City teacher. This bequest enables the Fund to grant the annual Julia Maloney Scholarship as well as undergraduate loans.

Applications for both the Julia Maloney Scholarship and student loans will be available in the High School Guidance office in early 2005.

Officers of the Garden City Student Aid and Scholarship Fund for 2004/2005 are: Marie Fischer, President; Carol Schrafel, Vice President; Joel Catania, Treasurer; and Kathy Auro, Secretary. The other members of the Board are: Bob Bolebruch, Pat Castel, Gary Fochesto, Hank Hardy, Steve Johnson, Genie Melone, and Larry Quinn.

The Garden City Student Aid and Scholarship Fund is a participating member of the Garden City Community Fund. Monies from the Garden City Community Fund help to offset operating expenses incurred in the administration of the scholarship and loan funds.
