Local Artist Update
The invitation to Shirley Agnes Jessen by Saks Fifth Avenue to exhibit her paintings in a one woman show there has been cancelled since the store will be closing in January.
Ms. Jessen has been honored with many significant citations, medals, and awards of excellence by exemplary art groups. The list is impressive and includes “American Artists” magazine. She has been teaching art classes at the Garden City Casino, for members of The Community Club of Garden City - Hempstead.
The artist is well-adapted and skilled in original creative painting in every medium. These include oil, watercolor, tempera, acrylics, pen and ink and pencil.
Her works include landscapes, florals, illustrations, human figures, still life, abstracts, Seascapes and precisionist abstract art.
Her oil painting “Long Island Dunes” will be on display in the Midge Karr Art Center on campus of SUNY Old Westbury until December 9.
Her work will also be in an exhibition at the Firehouse Art Gallery located at One Education Drive, in Garden City, from January 24 through February 5. There will be an artist reception on February 5 from 1-3 p.m., with awards ceremony at 2 p.m.
The public is invited to take a tour of Jessen’s art gallery in her home at 15 St. Paul’s Crescent in Garden City by phoning for an appointment. Everyone is welcome. For more information, visit www.art-exchange.com.
